Elementary PTAs to host first Elgin 5K

Elementary school teachers and parents are teaming up for the first-ever Elgin 5K Run, Walk and Community Market this weekend.

Hosted by the Neidig, Booker T. Washington and Harvest Ridge PTAs, the event is open to all ages and encourages the entire community to join Saturday, May 17, at Neidig Elementary, 13700 County Line Road.

Running, walking, shopping or cheering from the sidelines are all welcome in support of Elgin schools, PTA members said According to organizers, the event promotes the shared belief in “one town, one team, one family” and aims to show students the strength of community support. All proceeds will go toward empowering teachers and families with resources for the upcoming school year.

“Whether you’re ready to lace up your running shoes or just want to be part of a great day, we want the whole community to come out,” organizers said in a statement. “Your support makes a difference.”
