BASTROP — A resident’s question about an unregistered business tied to a city-funded road project was recently clarified by Bastrop officials.
The city has agreed to fund up to $600,000 for a frontage road along the new Burleson Crossing East retail subdivision at U.S. 71 and Ed Burleson Road. Developer Steve German said the road is part of a joint effort with the Texas Department of Transportation, which is donating right of way and building sidewalks, while the city covers construction costs.
His company, BEBD Frontage Road LLC, will build the road.
Funds are being routed through the LLC to separate public dollars from private finances, according to the city. German said he registered the entity with the Texas Secretary of State the same day concerns were raised, and the city attorney confirmed the approach is standard.
The commercial project is expected to create more than 300 jobs and generate over $1.4 million in property and sales tax, city officials said.
German said he is also covering improvements to Burleson Crossing and Wagon Wheel Drive and donating land for future upgrades to Blakey Drive.
