Bastrop County fuel prices could continue to fall

BASTROP COUNTY — Drivers in Bastrop County are paying around $2.69 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel this week, as gas prices across Texas remain steady ahead of the summer travel season.

According to AAA Texas, the statewide average is $2.75 per gallon, one cent lower than last week and 49 cents less than this time last year. The national average stands at $3.14.

Fuel prices in Bastrop remain below both state and national averages, with most stations reporting prices between $2.65 and $2.75. That trend could continue in the coming weeks as supply continues to outpace demand, according to AAA.

“In the lull between spring travel and the kick-off to summer, gas demand slid week over week,” AAA spokesperson Daniel Armbruster said in the agency’s latest report. “This caused fuel prices to drop in many cities across the Lone Star State.”

OPEC+, the group of major oil-producing countries, has also announced plans to increase output in June, potentially widening the global supply surplus and putting additional downward pressure on crude prices, according to AAA.

“Texas gas prices have stayed below $3 per gallon since last August,” Armbruster added. “With supply outpacing demand and the summer driving season right around the corner, road trippers could enjoy meaningful savings at the pump during their vacation travels in the coming months.”
