BASTROP — Bastrop Independent School District plans to develop new lessons and public education efforts around pediatric traumatic brain injuries after receiving a share of a local church’s grant funding.
Ascension Catholic Church allocated $80,000 to the district last spring, part of a larger $170,000 grant awarded through Toyota’s Way Forward initiative. The program focuses on improving access to care and recovery support for children with brain injuries.
District leaders outlined their plans during the April board meeting, where officials said age-appropriate lessons for students from kindergarten through 12th grade have already been developed.
According to the district, the grant will also fund parent education programs at community events and allow the communications team to produce public service announcements—helping raise awareness across Bastrop County.
District officials said the first step will be increasing awareness among students and families, with broader outreach efforts to follow.
