Vonnie Peel Stabeno

Vonnie Peel Stabeno
She was reunited with her husband, Rodney “Bubba” Stabeno, in their eternal home.
Vonnie was born Jan. 11, 1960, in Austin, to Lonnie and Lee Peel, and passed away after a life dedicated to family, community and service. She attended Pflugerville High School before pursuing her nursing education in Taylor, Texas.
In 1980, Vonnie married the love of her life, Rodney. They built a life filled with love and commitment together, residing in Elgin until 2018, when they relocated to Mart to create their dream home on their cherished property.
With a deep passion for helping others, Vonnie devoted over a decade of her career to the Elgin Family Clinic, providing compassionate care to countless Elginites. Her commitment to healthcare continued as she transitioned her focus to supporting the elderly, where she made an enduring impact for many more years. Vonnie actively volunteered at local schools, contributing her time to help with concessions stands, graduation planning and many other efforts to enhance the educational experience for her sons and their friends.
An exceptional cook, Vonnie delighted in preparing elaborate meals for family gatherings, especially during holidays, which were a source of joy for her. She took great pride in decorating her home to create a festive atmosphere, especially after becoming a grandmother, a role she cherished deeply. Her love for her family extended to the cattle they raised together. Vonnie had a special tradition of naming calves born on family members’ birthdays after them, capturing the hearts of her loved ones with updates and photographs.
Above all, Vonnie was devoted to her family.
Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband of 45 years.
She is survived by her sons, Colton Stabeno and wife Krystal, and Hunter Stabeno; precious grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Nonnie,” Emmett and Emmie; brother and sister, Ronnie and Hollye Peel; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Vonnie’s legacy of love, care and joyful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Family and friends will gather for visitation at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Elgin Thursday, June 12, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of Vonnie’s life with Pastor Sam Brannon presiding. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.
Arrangements and care are entrusted to Elgin Funeral Home, 712 N. Avenue C in Elgin.
