Rodney “Bubba” Stabeno

Rodney “Bubba” Stabeno
He was called home to be with his Lord at his home in Mart with his wife, Vonnie Peel Stabeno, at his bedside.
Bubba was born May 17, 1956, in Taylor, Texas, to Monroe and Lillie Stabeno. He was a graduate of Elgin High School, Class of 1974.
Bubba was united in holy matrimony to Vonnie Peel in 1980. The couple lived in Elgin until 2018, moving to Mart for retirement. Bubba was a devoted public service employee, where he worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for over 30 years, working on and inspecting bridges.
It came without question that Bubba had a deep love and admiration for his family. Any time Bubba was spotted in town, it was a sure bet he would have a family member with him.
Outside of family, Bubba loved spending time outdoors, hunting and tending his cattle. It was frequently said that Bubba had the best looking cattle in the county. His love for hunting was something he shared with his two boys and stemmed from his father. Time spent at the deer lease was some of his most cherished moments.
Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, and shortly followed by his loving wife of 45 years. Vonnie died Tuesday, June 3, at the age of 65.
He is survived by his sons, Colton Stabeno and wife Krystal, and Hunter Stabeno; precious grandchildren, Emmett and Emmie; sisters, Lynette Pierce and Marilyn Grandy; along with many extended family members and close friends.
Family and friends gathered for visitation at Elgin Funeral Home Wednesday, May 28, and a celebration of Bubba’s life May 29 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Elgin, with Pastor Sam Brannon presiding. Interment followed at Elgin Cemetery.
Arrangements and care are entrusted to Elgin Funeral Home, 712 N. Avenue C in Elgin.
