William Schobey

Nov 9, 1946 – April 11, 2025

Wil l i am Wil b u r n Schobey, 78, of Blue, Texas, died Friday, April 11, 2025.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill. He gave his life to Christ on a Palm Sunday when he was a young adult, and Christ came to get him two days before Palm Sunday so they could be together to celebrate in Heaven.

He was a loving son, brother, uncle, father and best friend to his wife of 46 years, Gail.

Bill was born Nov. 9, 1946, to William and Lillian Schobey in San Antonio, where he lived until later moving to Austin where he met Gail. They were married April 19, 1979 and lived in Austin for 16 years before moving to Blue, where they lived until he passed.

He loved sitting out on the swing and listening to the birds, smoking brisket and having his children and friends over.

Bill started his business, American Copier Supply Company, in 1977 and built it up together with his wife. He had copier toner in his blood and wore black so it wouldn’t show up on his clothes—he was known to many as “the man in black,” and some called him Johnny Cash. He had many loyal customers and treated them all with kindness and respect.

Bill will be remembered by all of the colorful stories he told of his childhood and family. You just had to ask him a question about one of them and once he got started, he wouldn’t stop. We all heard those stories many, many times.

The most important thing he taught to his children was to never leave without saying “I love you” and giving a hug and kiss. He said you just never know when it would be the last time.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian Schobey; sister, Connie Covington; and daughter, Robin Gail Schobey, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Gail; sons, Billy, David and Jason; daughter-in-law, Deanna Schobey; grandchildren, Zachary Schobey, Katie Schobey, Taylor Schobey, Shelby Rose and Sean Willingham; and his precious great-granddaughter, Tatum Grace Schobey.

I know he would like to say thank you to all of his family and friends for helping him have a happy life, and say how much he loved each of you.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Elgin Funeral Home, 712 N. Avenue C in Elgin, Texas.
