Robert Preston Cherry II, 62, of Manor, passed Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, from a long battle with a terminal illness in which he bravely fought.

Throughout his life, Bob was a loving son, husband, father, grandpa and friend. He was actively working at the Austin Police Department and was also a dental technician previously and a pastor sharing God's word. He enjoyed many hobbies which included following NASA with a deep interest in space, building and shooting off model rockets, collecting trading cards, following several sports teams, studying the bible with knowledge of the Greek and Hebrew languages, playing baseball, and pulling pranks and jokes. He had a great love for movies, television series – especially Sci-Fi – and music – many genres. He never missed a Grandpa Day with Tristan! To say he was one of a kind is an understatement.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Preston Cherry.

Bob is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Lynnette Cherry, of Manor; children, Christa and husband, Travis Vincent, of Leander, Jenny and husband, Dillon Nichols, of Elgin, and Robert Cherry III, of Elgin; grandchild, Tristan Vincent, who was his only grandchild and best buddy; mother, Loretta Cherry; sister, Wenona Cherry; brother, Shawn Cherry; and nephew, Josh Cherry.

A funeral service was conducted at Elgin New Life Baptist Fellowship Church on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James “Jim” Allman and the Rev. Jeff Wilson presiding.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Arrangements and care entrusted to Elgin Funeral Home.
