Patsy Sellers Hoffman, age 85, of Elgin, passed away on Sept. 30, 2022.

Patsy Jo Sellers was born on a farm near Lower Elgin River Road on Jan. 25, 1937, to Kirk Patrick Sellers and May Luella Kimball Sellers. She was a third-generation Elgin Texan.

Patsy earned a BFA degree in broadcast communications from University of Texas and worked in radio and television throughout her career, including working for NBC with the television station that is now KEYE from 1984 through 1996. After retirement, she had a second career at Advocacy Outreach, where she worked for 23 years until health problems caused her to take a second retirement at the age of 85. In addition to providing social services at Advocacy Outreach, Patsy served on the board of the Elgin Historical Association, the Elgin Library Board, Friends of the Elgin Library and the Elgin Cemetery Association. She was a volunteer at the Elgin Depot Museum and a member of Elgin Alley Cats, an organization that rescues and neuters feral cats. She adopted several rescued cats and, at the end of her life, she lived with one cat companion, Tablyn. In 2015, the Elgin Chamber of Commerce awarded Patsy the “Brick of the Community” award for the abundance of community services that she provided to Elgin.

She is survived by her son, Joseph John Roy Hoffman Jr.; granddaughter, Kristen Hoffman Turner; and grandson, Joseph Hoffman III.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.

Arrangements entrusted to Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
