Mary Jane Davis, 73, of McDade, passed away on Jan. 21, 2023.

Jane was born on Feb. 26, 1949, to Louise (Ernst) Mundine and Wallace Mundine Sr. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Michael R. (Mike) Davis; her daughter, Toye Davis; her beloved adopted granddaughter, Bretta Davis; her siblings, Dave Mundine, Wally Mundine (Vicki), and Susan Prihoda (Tom); and her nephew, Trey Mundine (Stefanie).

Jane grew up in McDade and had a cherished relationship with her grandparents, Mary and Bruno Ernst. She was a good student and a good athlete competing as a fast pitch softball pitcher and in volleyball and basketball. She also was an accomplished barrel racer. She completed her eight grades of school in McDade and went to high school in Elgin, graduating in 1967. She married Mike in 1969 while he was a student at Texas A&M, and they had a wonderful life together.

Jane completed her college education in 1975 graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. degree in education. She considered being an Aggie as the greatest achievement of her life. But, more was to come her way.

Jane had a passion for teaching children, and during a 45-year teaching career, she had a tremendous impact on second, third, and fourth graders in the school where she taught. She taught in Bryan, 15 years, Elgin, 27 years, and McDade, three years. During her career, she was recognized as “Teacher of the Year” on 18 different occasions by the three school districts. She was respected by her peers and was loved by her students.

Jane is loved and will be missed dearly.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at 2 p.m. at McDade Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jane’s name to the Central Christian Church, 17 North Ave. B, Elgin, TX 78621.
