Joy LaVerne Kylberg Arbuckle, 87, of Elgin, went to be with our Lord on Jan. 13, 2023.

She was born Sept. 25, 1935, to Hilding and Ruth (Larsberg) Kylberg at home in the countryside Larsberg House. She attended the Kylberg School and then transferred to Elgin schools when the family moved to town. LaVerne developed a love of music early and played the organ by ear. She was strong in her faith, baptized on Sept. 30, 1935, and confirmed on June 6, 1950, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lund. She graduated from Elgin High School and was active in the yearbook club, band and an EHS twirler.

Soon after graduating, Ray Arbuckle Jr. asked her on a date. The two were engaged on the second date and married a few months later, on April 14, 1955, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Elgin. Ray and LaVerne had two children and celebrated 52 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2007.

LaVerne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother "Mimi," great-grandmother and sweet friend. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family, traveling, music, gardening and oil painting Texas landscapes and old barns. She significantly cherished annual trips to the beach with the best of friends. LaVerne participated in Sheryl and Russell's childhood activities, volunteered at her churches, was active within the Elgin Community and was very proud of her Swedish Heritage.

She is preceded in death and joined in heaven with her husband, Ray Arbuckle Jr.; daughter, Sheryl Arbuckle Green; her parents, Hilding and Ruth Kylberg; and in-laws, Ray and Florence (Erhard) Arbuckle.

LaVerne is survived by her loving family, son, Russell Arbuckle and wife, Paula; son-in-law, Terry Green; grandchildren, Cayton Green and Heather, Ryan Green and wife, Kelsey, Ethan Arbuckle, Jackson Arbuckle and fiancé, Nicole; and great-grandchildren, Kinley Green and Addilyn Green. She is also survived by her brother, Edward Kylberg; family, Stephen and Monica Kylberg, David and Emily Kylberg; great-nephew, Reid; and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 401 E. 8th St. in Elgin, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in LaVerne's memory to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 401 E. 8th St., Elgin, TX 78621.

Arrangements entrusted to Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
