An anonymous threat at Elgin Intermediate School has led to increased security on campus.

Elgin Independent School District has launched an investigation into the threat. Parents and staff were informed in a email shortly after 8 a.m. about how campus security heard about the threat Wednesday morning, April 12.

"Elgin ISD takes all threats toward our schools seriously. Out of an abundance of caution, a threat assessment has been conducted and an investigation into the matter has been opened," said Principal Bobby Joe Truhill.

As of 10:30 a.m., district personnel had no further informaton to add on the investigation.

"Your child’s safety is the District’s top priority," said Truhill. "Elgin ISD Security is working with Elgin police on the matter, and we will have increased police presence on campus today."

The principal reminded parents to help keep campuses safe by monitoring their children's activities and to inform them how serious it can be to make threats or send misinformation.

"The district will always work with local authorities to investigate all matters involving our campus or our students," added Truhill. "and take immediate action when appropriate."

Elgin ISD uses a statewide school threat reporting tool, iWatchTexas, to report threats or similar concernts. Parents and students can use the tool through https://www.elginisd.net/Domain/2946 .
