Father rescues drowning son, later declared deceased

BASTROP – Bastrop Police Department Officers were dispatched to the area of Fisherman’s Park March 24, answering reports of an unresponsive adult male in the water.

Upon initial investigation, officers on site discovered that the individual’s son was struggling in the water when he jumped in to assist him, according to Chief of Police Vicky Steffanic.

“The son was rescued, however, the adult male was later declared deceased,” said Steffanic in a press release.

Several officers arrived on scene with mutual aid from Bastrop Fire Department and the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office.

The identity of the deceased has not been released, and notification of next of kin is ongoing.
