Public liaisons to the community have more tools to interact with residents.
Local public information officers recently completed the Federal Emergency Management Administration’s Public Information Basics Course. Representatives from Elgin municipal government, and Elgin Independent School District, North Bastrop County Fire Rescue, Bastrop County Cares and multiple agencies from Bastrop County and nearby participated in the course.
“Having the same training and the relationships to work together will make communication even more cohesive across the county,” said Elgin municipal staff in a press release. “This collaboration will benefit the participating agencies and Elgin community as they work together to develop public awareness campaigns, and the coordinated sharing of information across agencies will be stronger and more successful throughout the year as well as during times of crisis.”
The course provides public information officers additional training, tools and resources to work together to plan public information for the community. The goal is to help liaisons help everyone else understand how and where they can get information when they need it. Individual agencies have their own methods and processes for communicating.
