Unofficial results show mixed leads across local elections

Update as of 9:16 p.m:

Unofficial results from all vote centers reporting show consistent leads in races across the county.

ELGIN

In Elgin, Theresa McShan maintained her lead over Stephanie Lippke with 56% of the vote. 

In the Ward 2 city council race, Roland Silva leads with 71%, ahead of Charles Swain and Wes Callais. Agatha Christi Mayfield holds a narrower lead in Ward 3 with 53% to Al Rodriguez’s 47%. 

Elgin Independent School District trustee races also widened. Bryon Mitchell leads District 1 with 77% over Michael Clowdus. In District 2, Cheryl Reese leads with 62%.

BASTROP 

Ishmael Harris expanded his lead in the mayoral race with 84% of the vote, compared to Joseph Stanfield’s 15%. 

SMITHVILLE

City council races remained close but steady. Wini Griffin leads Place 4 with 52% of the vote over Mitchell Jameson’s 47%. In Place 5, Dana Tovar leads Cathy Meek with 57% of the vote.

Early results from the May 2026 general election show low voter turnout and several clear leaders in key races across Elgin, Bastrop and Smithville as of 7 p.m. 

Countywide so far, 1,382 ballots were cast out of 18,253 registered voters, a turnout of 7.5%.

ELGIN

Incumbent Theresa McShan is leading the mayor's race over Stephanie Lipkke with 297 votes to 210, or 58% to 41%, according to unofficial results. 

In city council contests, Roland Silva has a strong lead for Ward 2 over Charles Swain and Wes Callais with 72% of the vote. Agatha Christi Mayfield is currently leading in Ward 3 with 57% compared to Al Rodriguez with 42%. Brenda Gullikson Pina ran unopposed in Ward 4, securing 139 votes. 

Elgin Independent School District trustee races show decisive margins. Bryon Mitchell leads District 1 with 74% of the vote, while Cheryl Reese leads District 2 with 64%, ahead of Cherish White and Dennis Saint Ives. 

BASTROP

In Bastrop, incumbent leadership appears to be holding their position. Ishmael Harris leads the mayoral race with 84%, over Joseph Stanfield, who has 15%. 

Kevin Plunkett is running unopposed for city council place 3. 

SMITHVILLE

Sharon Foerster is running unopposed for the mayoral seat in Smithville. However, city council races show tight races. 

Wini Griffin is leading place 4 with 52% over Mitchell Jameson’s 47%. In place 5, Dana Tovar leads over Cathy Meek with 58% of the vote.
