County sees modest turnout
Bastrop County processed 18,606 ballots in Tuesday’s 2026 primary election, representing nearly 30% of registered voters, according to unofficial results.
Texas House District 17
Republican voters selected Stan Gerdes as their nominee, while Democratic voters chose Mary Elizabeth Klenz.
Gerdes received 59.15% of the votes, compared to Tom Glass, who garnered 40.85%. A total of 9,310 ballots were cast in the Republican primary for Texas House District 17, representing nearly 15% of the county’s 62,294 registered voters, according to unofficial results.
On the Democratic side, Klenz led the three-candidate field with 62.22%. Frank Gomez III received 23.42%, and Robert Salter drew 14.36%. 7,467 ballots were cast for the Democratic nominee for Texas House District 17, accounting for 12% of registered voters countywide.
Both Gerdes and Klenz will appear on the November ballot.
Bastrop County judge
In the race for Bastrop County judge, Gregory Klaus won the Republican nomination against challenger Donald Loucks. Klaus received 63.8% of votes, compared with Loucks’ 36.18%, according to unofficial results. A total of 8,778 ballots were cast in the contest, representing 14.1% voters countywide.
Klaus will face Democrat Dock Jackson in November.
District clerk
For Bastrop County district clerk, Sarah Loucks secured the nomination with 51.38% of votes, according to unofficial results. Holly Cox received 24.5%, Ward Northcutt drew 14.5% and Tamara “Tammy” Batot received 9.5%.
A total of 8,404 ballots were cast for the Republican nominee for district clerk, representing 8.2% of voters countywide.
Loucks will not face a Democratic challenger in November.
