Early mornings and months of preparation paid off for young exhibitors as the Bastrop County Jr. Livestock Show wrapped a successful two-day run in Elgin.
Held at the VFW Post 6115 barn Jan. 9-10, the countywide event showcased the prize livestock and fair projects of area youth. Now in its fifth year under an expanded format, the Saturday auction raised thousands for local competitors.
Top local honors saw Tilde Fowler claim Grand Champion Rabbit Meat Pen, while Destiny Carpio Gonzalez secured an auction spot with a fourthplace finish in Rabbit Fryer.
In the broiler competitions, Preston Maass earned Grand Champion Pullets, Grand Champion Broiler Showmanship and Reserve Grand Champion Cockerels. Taitin Parsons was named Grand Champion Cockerels and advanced to the auction alongside Jett Parsons.
Elgin’s swine exhibitors also turned in strong performances, led by Hayley Wenzel, who placed first in the Class 4 gilt division.
For fair projects, Macy Heine was named Senior Youth Fair Grand Champion for a woodworking chicken coop, while Preston Maass earned Reserve Grand Champion honors for a granite fire patio table.
Attendees said the show highlighted not only award-winning animals and projects, but also the dedication, skill and growing impact of Bastrop County’s next generation of agricultural professionals.
