Two people died and four others were hospitalized after a fiery three-vehicle highway crash late Aug. 30, Elgin police said.
Robbie Carter, 66, of McDade, and Yareli Padierna, 13, of Elgin, died from injuries sustained in a collision at the intersection of Texas 95 and U.S. 290. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene, while Padierna died at an area hospital, according to officials.
An Elgin Police Department officer on patrol reportedly witnessed the crash about 11:55 p.m. Saturday and immediately radioed for emergency responders. Officers said two of the vehicles were engulfed in flames when backup arrived.
Multiple ambulances and medical helicopters transported patients from the scene. As of Tuesday morning, officials had not released the conditions of the four other people taken to hospitals.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the department.
