BASTROP — The Bastrop Lady Bears varsity volleyball team continued its strong season with a sweep of the Lockhart Lady Lions, winning 3-0 on Friday night.
The match carried extra meaning as senior captain Keyaira Limeul reached a career milestone, recording her 500th kill. The Lady Bears celebrated the achievement with their captain before the contest.
Bastrop set the tone early, pulling out a tight 25-22 victory in the opening set. The Lady Bears found their rhythm in the second set, dominating 25-14 to take firm control of the match. Lockhart pushed back in the third set, but Bastrop held on for a 25-23 win to complete the sweep.
The Lady Bears entered the matchup riding momentum after a strong showing in the USA bracket, where they finished first with a 6-2 record. The win over Lockhart pushed Bastrop to 19-9 overall.
Bastrop opened District 25-5A play on Tuesday against Ann Richards and will continue district competition on Friday, Sept. 12, with a road match at Cedar Creek scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
