The Cedar Creek Eagles varsity volleyball team broke out of a slump in dramatic fashion, defeating the Pflugerville Connally Cougars in five sets, 3-2, on Friday night.
The victory snapped a five-match losing streak and improved the Eagles’ overall record to 7-15.
Cedar Creek opened the night with a strong performance, taking the first set 25-17 behind consistent serving and efficient play at the net. Connally regrouped quickly, however, and answered with a 25-19 win in the second set to even the match.
The Cougars carried that momentum into the third set, pulling away late for a 25-18 victory to take a 2-1 lead. Facing elimination, Cedar Creek clawed its way to a narrow 25-22 win in the fourth set to force a decisive fifth frame.
The Eagles seized control early in the tiebreaker, building momentum point by point before finishing off the match with a commanding 15-7 victory.
The win provided Cedar Creek with a much-needed boost heading into district play. The Eagles opened District 25-5A competition on Tuesday against Crockett and will continue with a rivalry matchup at home against Bastrop on Friday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m.
