BASTROP — Bastrop County Emergency Services District No. 2 opened its new fire station May 20, a move expected to enhance response times and services on the south side of the district.
The station in Tahitian Village, east of the city, follows a remodel and relocation project. It houses an engine, a brush truck and a jet boat, and is staffed by both paid and volunteer personnel.
District officials said the addition fulfills a longstanding commitment to improve emergency coverage for residents in the area.
In addition to the grand opening, ESD No. 2 recently completed a series of wildland fire training courses—hosting two and assisting with a third over a two-week span. A total of 35 students participated from across the state, including several of the department’s own members, officials said.
Courses included entry- level firefighting instruction and a fire behavior class focused on the key factors influencing wildfire spread. Other sessions covered chainsaw operations, tactical wildland fire applications and the recognition of hazardous conditions.
The training combined classroom learning with hands-on field exercises designed to simulate fire line conditions.
While training continues, the department is hiring for multiple firefighter and EMT positions to help meet regional growth and demand, according to the district. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications and are encouraged to apply online.
