SMITHVILLE — With hopes of turning the page after a challenging 2024 season, the Smithville Tigers varsity football team has released its 2025 schedule. After finishing last year with a 0-10 record, the Tigers are looking to reset under the Friday night lights with a fresh slate and a full offseason of preparation.
Smithville will begin its campaign with two preseason scrimmages. The Tigers will host Manor New Tech Saturday, Aug. 16, before traveling to face Austin Travis Thursday, Aug. 21. The regular season kicks off Friday, Aug. 29, when Smithville hosts Rockdale at Tiger Stadium. The following week, the Tigers will travel to Giddings Sept. 5, before returning home for back-to-back matchups against La Grange Sept. 12 and Caldwell Sept. 19.
District play begins Friday, Sept. 26, when the Tigers visit Jarrell. They will return home to host Gonzales Oct. 3 before entering their lone bye week.
Following the bye, Smithville will travel west to face Lago Vista Oct. 17, then return to Tiger Stadium to host Navarro Oct. 24. The Tigers will be back on the road to play perennial power Wimberley on Halloween night, Oct. 31, and will wrap up the regular season at home against Salado Friday, Nov. 7.
Smithville is expected to return several key contributors from last season’s young roster, and the program is hopeful that the new schedule— featuring a mix of familiar foes and fresh opportunities—will mark the beginning of a turnaround.
