Hinnant throws perfect game as Lady Tigers advance

SWEENY — Freshman pitcher Jessica Hinnant threw a three-inning perfect game to lead the Smithville Lady Tigers to a 15-0 run-rule victory over La Marque in the bi-district round of the playoffs on Thursday, April 24.

Smithville dominated at the plate early, scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Brittney Collins sparked the offense with a two-RBI double, followed by an RBI single from junior Kenna Tiner to make it 3-0. The Lady Tigers added runs on a hit-by-pitch, a fielder’s choice and a two-RBI single from sophomore Brityn Roberts to extend the lead to 7-0.

Smithville kept the pressure on with six more runs in the second inning. Tiner hit an RBI double, and sophomore Kenzly White added an RBI single to push the score to 9-0. The Lady Tigers tacked on additional runs with a groundout, an error, and a two-RBI triple from Hinnant, making it 13-0.

The Lady Tigers secured the run-rule win in the third inning, getting an RBI double from junior Kayden Wilde and a walk-off RBI single by freshman Alystar Ramos. In total, five Smithville players recorded multiple RBIs.

Smithville will now face Salado in a best-of-three area round series beginning Thursday, May 1. The series will continue Friday, May 2, with a third game, if necessary, scheduled for Saturday, May 3.

Salado finished 12-0 to win the District 24-4A title and is coming off a series sweep of Lorena. First pitch for Games 1 and 2 is set for 6:30 p.m., with Game 3’s time to be determined, and the entire series takes place at Thrall High School.
