The sound of Bastrop County’s growing creative community echoed through the city last weekend as the second annual Elgin Music Festival brought big crowds, a range of musical styles and a celebration of local art.
Organized by the Elgin Arts Association, the four-day event showcased area talent across multiple Veterans Memorial Park stages and local venues—all while raising funds in support of arts education and regional acts.
Festival Director of Operations Quinn Walton credited the collaborative spirit of the Elgin community for the event’s success.
“(The Elgin Arts Association) is doing God’s work here in town, making sure that people can have access to our young and our older artists, and have a place for them to live their own art,” Walton said. “The community, the city of Elgin and the Main Street Program… a true collaboration amongst the grassroots efforts here in downtown Elgin.”
Walton said events like the music festival have made downtown Elgin a reliable destination for entertainment and community connection.
“It doesn’t all happen without your beautiful faces out here,” he told a Friday night crowd, urging festivalgoers to give themselves a round of applause. “I have the honor of being a person here in town who gets to share these kinds of events, gets to participate in making them happen—and I do it because I love this community.”
The festival expanded on its inaugural year, increasing the number of intimate acoustic sets and energetic, full-band shows—a trend officials said they hope to continue.
Beyond the music, the festival featured vendors, local artisans and vintage cars to keep visitors engaged throughout the weekend.
“If you aren’t down here enjoying the music fest, you aren’t living the Elgin life,” said one attendee.
