Varsity Elgin softball split a pair of district contests last week, rolling to a 9-3 win over Hendrickson March 4, before stumbling 15-1 against Weiss March 7.
The Lady Wildcats resume district play with a mid-week home game against Georgetown before they travel to Pflugerville Friday, March 14, for a 7 p.m. start.
Vs. Hendrickson
Junior Bianca Galindo fueled Elgin’s offense, finishing 3-for-3 with five RBIs.
The Lady Wildcats jumped ahead quickly, notching three runs in the first inning behind run-scoring hits from juniors Adrianna Sandoval, one RBI, and Trinity Martinez, two RBIs.
Although the Hawks scored twice in the second to close the gap to 3-2, Galindo responded with a two-run homer in the bottom half, pushing the lead to 5-2.
Hendrickson trimmed the deficit to 6-3 in the fifth before Galindo provided the final cushion, launching a three-run blast that sealed the six-point win.
Sandoval pitched a complete game, striking out 11 while yielding three runs.
Vs. Weiss
Elgin’s momentum stalled on Friday, as nine errors led to a 15-1 runrule defeat at Weiss.
The Red Wolves opened a 2-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on three more runs in the second.
Galindo provided Elgin’s lone spark with a solo home run in the third to make it 5-1, but Weiss answered with 10 more rounds of the bases over the following two innings.
Sandoval took the loss on the mound.
