A man and a woman were arrested after the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office recovered a stolen excavator, a stolen GMC Denali and large quantities of THC products during a search Wednesday in Cedar Creek, according to a BCSO Facebook post.

According to investigators, at about 8:40 a.m. Sept. 16, members of the BCSO Auto Theft Division, Organized Crime Unit and Patrol Division executed a search warrant in the 700 block of Walter Hoffman Road.

The two suspects were arrested and charged with theft of property valued between $30,000 and $150,000, a third-degree felony, according to police.

According to law enforcement, the investigation began after the Kent County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan asked for assistance after a mini excavator rented with a stolen credit card and fake identification was tracked to the Cedar Creek area.

Deputies recovered the excavator, which was being disassembled, along with a 2022 GMC Denali 2500 reported stolen by the Houston Police Department, according to the statement.

According to deputies, suspects had used fake registration documents, VIN plates and license plates on the truck for more than a year.

Deputies also searched a motorhome on the property and seized 22.4 pounds of marijuana, 28.2 pounds of THC liquid, 4.4 pounds of THC gummies and 4,236 THC vapes, according to BCSO.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
