Bastrop and Austin police are investigating the connected killings of two women, both believed to have been shot by the same Cedar Creek man.
Manuel Salgado, 22, met his ex-girlfriend Mariana Palacios at Fisherman’s Park in Bastrop Sept. 13 and fatally shot her at close range before turning the gun on himself, according to Bastrop police. Salgado was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Austin police also responded Sept. 15 to a welfare check at 744 W. William Cannon Drive and found Desiree Guana, 27, dead from apparent gunshot wounds, officials said.
Investigators determined Guana had been living with Salgado and that he was romantically involved with both women. A preliminary investigation indicates he was responsible for both deaths, according to police.
The cases remain under investigation.
