The historic Heidenheimer Building, 209 E. First St., is the site for “Spark! Places of Innovation,” a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street.
Sponsors said the free exhibit has been brought to the community as part of Taylor’s Sesquicentennial celebration.
A reception to open the exhibition took place Aug. 14. Arriving in Taylor thanks to a collaboration between the Texas Historical Commission and the Smithsonian Institution, the exhibit runs until Sept. 27, organizers said.
Teresa Caldwell, state coordinator of the Texas Heritage Trails Program at the historical commission, attended the reception and said innovation is what makes communities such as Taylor so distinctive.
“‘Spark! Places of Innovation’ shows us that innovation can happen anywhere,” she said. “Rural Texans are creating new products, taking risks, meeting challenges together and seizing upon exciting opportunities that change local life and far beyond.”
Visitors can attend the exhibit Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The showcase also features events and historical figures from Taylor’s past.
