The Lady Wildcats varsity volleyball team opened its 2025 season Tuesday, Aug. 12, falling in straight sets to Bastrop before regrouping for the Wimberley Tex Fest tournament last weekend.
Elgin battled in the first two sets against the Lady Bears, staying in the hunt but dropping 25-16 and 25-21 decisions. Bastrop found its momentum and closed out the match with a 25-9 win in the third set to secure the sweep.
At Tex Fest, the Lady Cats stumbled out of the gate, dropping straightset matches to Aubrey (25-9, 25-13), Johnson City (25-17, 25-10) and Liberty Hill Legacy Ranch (25-13, 25-11).
Elgin earned its first win of the season against San Antonio Keystone Christian, sweeping 2-0. The girls couldn’t carry that momentum into their final match of the weekend and fell just short in a three-set battle with New Braunfels Long Creek.
Junior captains Miranda Herring and Katelyn Anderson stood out for Elgin throughout the opening stretch, providing consistent play on both ends of the court.
The Lady Wildcats returned to action after press time Tuesday, matched with Austin Northeast Early College. They will continue tournament play Aug. 21-23 at the Bastrop Classic.

Elgin Lady Cats senior Bella Navejas lands a spike against Bastrop Tuesday, Aug. 12.
