Local groups seek $1.25M

BASTROP CITY COUNCIL

BASTROP — City Council received more than two dozen funding requests from local organizations during a special session earlier this month, totaling about $1.25 million in proposed community support.

The submissions were part of the city’s annual community partner funding process, which takes place ahead of the next fiscal year’s budget adoption. City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino said final funding amounts will be determined during the city’s budget discussions, based on the tax rate, available funds and council direction.

“Every year we provide an opportunity for the community assets and community support groups which by and large help the city continue its mission and assist its residents,” Carrillo-Trevino said.

No council action was taken during the scheduled meeting. Five designated community asset organizations, funded through hotel occupancy tax revenue, submitted requests totaling $955,254 — a 23.3% increase over the prior year. These include the Bastrop Old Town Visitor Center and the Lost Pines Art Center.

Nineteen additional community support groups, funded through the city’s general fund, requested nearly $300,000 — marking a 74% increase, with requests ranging from $4,000 to $50,000.

Six organizations submitted first-time requests for city support:

• American Legion Post 533: $20,000

• Bastrop Hope House: $10,000

• Bastrop Youth Soccer Organization: $5,000

• Camp Haven Sanctuary: $8,000

• Connections Individual & Family Services: $5,000

• Kerr Community Center: $50,000
