ASH SMITH PORTRAITS ELGIN — Celebrate the opening of Ash Smith’s latest exhibit Aug. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Clever Tiger, 114 Depot St. This portrait collection explores the dual personalities of well-known figures, capturing both their public and private sides through oil and acrylic paintings. The free exhibit will remain on display throughout August.

GENEALOGY SEMINAR SMITHVILLE — The Lost Pines Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host its annual genealogy seminar Aug. 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at First National Bank, 312 Main St. in Smithville. Genealogist Ella Evadna Lee Sheffield and keynote speaker Elizabeth Crysup Pierce will lead sessions on lineage and family tree research. AUG. 25 WWII POWS

MCDADE — The McDade Historical Society will host a free presentation at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at 557 Old Highway 20. Historian Brad Weber will speak about the World War II prisoners of war held at Camp Swift. Refreshments will be served following the talk.
