City plans all-ward forum Saturday

Residents will have a chance to hear updates on key city issues and ask questions directly of Elgin leaders during an all-ward meeting this weekend.

The citywide gathering Saturday, July 19, will run from 9 to 11 a.m. and be hosted by City Council members at the Elgin Independent School District Administrative Building, 1002 N. Avenue C. Moderators for the open town hall will be Elgin residents Jessica Jaimes and Roger Adams.

Mayor Theresa McShan is scheduled to deliver opening remarks, followed by updates on city finances, staffing and governance. Other priority topics will include the upcoming budget, proposed changes to the City Charter and annexation discussions involving Bastrop County Emergency Services District No. 3, council members said earlier this month.

Discussions are also expected on vital city vacancies, including the city manager, finance director and community services director roles, officials said.

Interim City Manager Isaac Turner confirmed July 1 that he or another staff member will present budget-related information during the meeting.

The council is scheduled to review a draft of the proposed city budget at its July 15 meeting, after press time.

According to city officials, the council will not take any official action at the town hall, in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Councilwoman YaLecia Love encouraged residents from all four wards to attend Saturday’s session. She said anyone with questions ahead of the event should contact their ward’s representatives.
