State small business summit headed to Bastrop

BASTROP — Local entrepreneurs will have a chance to sharpen their skills and expand their network when the Governor’s Small Business Summit lands in Bastrop June 26.

Coming to the Bastrop Convention Center, 1408 Chestnut St., the summit will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include sessions on growth strategies, leveraging public programs and using technology to scale small businesses. The event aims to bring together local, state and federal resource partners to offer insight into how to grow—or start—a business locally and beyond, according to Gov. Greg Abbott.

“Small businesses are the cornerstone of our vibrant communities and the driving force behind Texas’ thriving economy,” Abbott said in a statement. “With more than 3.3 million small businesses across Texas, employing nearly half of all working Texans, our state continues to lead in job creation and business expansion.”

The Bastrop summit will feature keynote speaker Clint Howard, artist and owner of the city’s own Pyrology Foundry and Studio.

“I met Clint Howard in 2001 and that’s where my career as a sculptor took off,” said John Maisano, an award-winning artist based out of Austin.

The event is part of a statewide series organized by the Governor’s Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office and Office of Small Business Assistance.

Bastrop is one of 15 Texas communities originally selected to host a summit in February. Other cities include Dalhart, Pharr, Eagle Pass, Carthage and Waxahachie.

Registration is $20 and includes access to all sessions, lunch, headshots and networking opportunities.
