The Elgin Chamber of Commerce is undergoing a leadership transition following the sudden resignation of two staff members last week.
President Rhonda Graham and Events Assistant Debra Cole have both resigned effective immediately, according to a statement from the chamber’s Board of Directors. Graham began her short stint as the chamber’s lead in February.
No reason for the departures was provided.
In response, former chamber President Veronica Seever has agreed to return in an interim role to guide the organization through the transition. Seever is expected to begin onboarding a full-time assistant in early June. A formal search for a new president will begin after the conclusion of Western Days, which remains the chamber’s top priority, board members said.
“We sincerely thank Rhonda and Debra for their dedication and contributions and wish them the best in future endeavors,” the board stated. “We are grateful to Veronica for her flexibility and willingness to step in during this transition.”
In a separate public message, Seever acknowledged the emotional weight of the situation but expressed her commitment to supporting the chamber and adapting her personal schedule to meet the needs of the organization.
“I wholeheartedly believe in the organization that has given so much to me, and I will figure this out by adapting,” Seever said.
Office hours are expected to remain consistent, though occasional disruptions may occur due to scheduling constraints, according to the chamber.
