BASTROP — Three Bastrop Independent School District students will apprentice with an aerospace manufacturer preparing to open its new facility in the Bastrop Business and Industrial Park.
The students are the first to advance through the Acutronic Apprenticeship Alliance, a program developed in partnership with Austin Community College and the district’s advanced manufacturing academy. The paid, multiyear experience combines classroom learning with more than 2,000 hours of on-the-job training and industry mentoring, marking a milestone for Bastrop ISD’s expanding P-TECH career training initiative, officials said.
District and city leaders gathered earlier this month to recognize the students, celebrate returning participants and welcome a new group of freshmen entering the program’s career pipeline.
“Acutronic is proud to sponsor A3, the first program of its kind in Texas and one of the trailblazing youth apprenticeship programs in the country,” said Acutronic CEO Florian Aigrain in a statement.
According to the district, the apprenticeship model draws from a dual-track vocational system and is designed to prepare students for high-skill technical roles before graduation. Before beginning their apprenticeships, students complete a series of technical courses at Austin Community College in subjects such as manufacturing, electronics and computer- aided machining.
During the program, students are paired with Acutronic technicians and will take part in additional industry-led lectures and hands-on training.
Acutronic’s Bastrop facility is expected to open in late 2025, according to the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation, with the company projected to add dozens of full-time jobs.
