BASTROP — Bastrop Independent School District has named a new director of operations to oversee district facilities and manage outside vendors.
Joshua Thomas, a Bastrop High School graduate and veteran of the United States Marine Corps, will step into the role in the coming weeks, the district announced earlier this month.
“As a Bastrop High School alumnus, I’m truly honored to return to the district in this capacity,” Thomas said. “This community has played a significant role in shaping who I am today, so I’m excited to now contribute to its future.”
Thomas brings experience in maintenance supervision, public safety and contract oversight from both state government and nonprofit sectors.
He most recently worked in education and outreach for the Texas Veterans Commission and previously held leadership roles with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department sites, including Colorado Bend, Goliad and Buescher state parks.
Earlier in his career, Thomas worked at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment, where he managed trail maintenance, staff onboarding and educational programming. He served in the Marine Corps from 2012 to 2017 as a communications electronics technician, where his duties included equipment inspection and inventory, performance reviews and training support for special operations units.
“I am excited to welcome Josh as our new director of operations,” Superintendent Barry Edwards said. “His skill set and diverse background make him the top candidate to lead our operations team. I am confident that his energy and leadership will drive positive change and help us provide the best possible learning environment for our students and staff.”
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas State University.
He lives in Bastrop with his wife, Adrianna, a college access specialist at Cedar Creek High School, and their daughter.
