Eye title defense
BASTROP — The Bastrop Bears are coming off a historic season that ended with a district championship and a run to the second round of the playoffs before falling to Fort Bend Marshall in the area round.
In 2025, they’ll be back with a target on their backs—and a roster ready to defend the crown.
Bastrop will open the season at home against Alvin Friday, Aug. 29, before heading to China Spring Sept. 5 in a rematch of last year’s narrow 27-24 loss. The Bears will return home to host Plano Prestonwood Sept. 12.
District play begins Sept. 19 with a home matchup against Crockett, where Bastrop will be looking to extend its district win streak to eight games after a perfect 7-0 run last season. The Bears will then face Austin McCallum in a Thursday night showdown at House Park Sept. 25, followed by a bye week.
After the break, Bastrop returns to action Oct. 9 at The Pfield to take on Pflugerville Connally. The Bears will host Navarro Oct. 17 before traveling to face county rival Elgin Oct. 24. Their final home game is set for Friday, Oct. 31, against Pflugerville.
The regular season wraps up with what could be a district title- deciding game at Liberty Hill Nov. 7.
Bastrop will once again be led by rising senior quarterback Weston Nielsen, a Class of 2026 standout poised for another breakout campaign.
