Shirley Jean Martinez

On April 16, 2023, Shirley Jean Martinez, 60, of Elgin, gained her wings. She was known by many names but her favorite was grandma.

Shirley was born on March 8, 1963, in Austin to Daniel and Estella Gomez. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Jose Martinez; parents; sisters, Peggy (Larry) and Gabriella (Geno); daughters, Yvette (Gabriel), Yvonne, and Crystal (Johnny); her sons, Daniel (Abigail) and Michael (Susana); her eight granddaughters; six grandsons as well as nieces and nephews.

Shirley will be remembered dearly in our hearts as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Shirley’s greatest blessings were her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family, dancing, spoiling her grandkids and caring for her cats.  

A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home with the recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Celebration of Mass Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Elgin Latin Cemetery.
