Marion Irene (Larson) Magnuson was born on Jan. 5, 1923, to Henry and Hilma (Berggren) Larson at their countryside home in the Lund community. She passed away on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. to join her family in their heavenly home.

She attended Carlson School and graduated from Elgin in 1940. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church most of her life. She was baptized on March 5, 1923, confirmed on Sept. 4, 1938, and married on Dec. 10, 1943, to Hartwin John Magnuson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Hartwin and Irene were married 61 years and blessed with three children, Marion, Boyd and Loyd.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hartwin; son, Loyd; her parents; and sisters, Marjorie Anderson and Lois Pflueger. Irene is survived by her daughter, Marion; son, Boyd and wife, Diane; daughter-in-law, Karen Strong; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Irene was a devoted Christian farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved baby sitting all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when she could and teaching and reading to them about God. She took great pride in helping her grandchildren learn to cook and work on the farm, teaching them to drive and playing chicken foot. She also loved to help at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elgin with Vacation Bible School, ladies group and serving families in the time of need. They were members at St. Peter’s for many years. In her later years, she returned to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lund.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 17900 Lund-Carlson Road in Elgin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
