BASTROP – The Bastrop city council met last week to canvass the votes of the May 6 general election.Jim Duggan agreed to do the honors of swearing-in elected officials.The Council vote canvassing is the final step in making the election results official.Incumbent Kevin Plunkett was elected to Place 3, and incoming councilmember Cynthia Sanders Meyer was elected to the unexpired term of Place 2.In the mayor’s race, no candidate obtained majority vote. As a result, the Council called the runoff election for mayor to be held June 10, between Dock Jackson and Lyle Nelson. Early voting will start May 30.
