BASTROP — Residents who want to help lead their city can apply now.Candidate packets are available to Bastrop citizens interested in running for mayor or another spot on the City Council in May’s election. Applications opened Jan. 18 and will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17.The council unanimously approved calling for the city election during its Jan. 10 meeting. The city will contract with Bastrop County to provide election services.Bastrop is a council-manager municipality where the council establishes city policy through ordinances and resolutions, while the city manager carries out policies and is responsible for city operations.
