Monument unveiled in Veterans’ Park

A monument honoring Bastrop County soldiers wounded or killed in war was unveiled in Elgin’s Veterans’ Memorial Park during a dedication ceremony on Saturday. The Purple Heart monument is a tribute for recipients of the Purple Heart Medal, an award given to members of the U.S. armed forces who are wounded by an instrument of war at the hands of an enemy, or given to the next of kin of those who are killed in action or die of wounds sustained during combat.
