During last week’s regular meeting, the Elgin City Council discussed a draft of a proposed parade ordinance and approved reaching out to residents about a compromise regarding dis-annexation of land.

For a long time, Elgin has only had a few parades, so the city was able to deal with each individually. Now that the city is growing and more parades are coming to Elgin, and each parade has a cost to taxpayers associated with it, the city wants to be able to manage the parades properly, city manager Thomas Mattis said.
