This week’s Spotlight highlights three exceptional young ladies excelling on the court for the Lady Wildcat Tennis Team. Senior Leah Anderson, junior Marina Ramirez and junior Tiffany Guerra agreed to share their thoughts and insights into their careers.
I asked Leah and Marina what they considered their game’s strongpoints, and Leah volunteered that feels she serves harder than most of her competitors. She scores lots of aces with her hard serve and pinpoint placement. Marina feels she plays at her best when she plays against a strong wind so that she can really let go and hit her forehand as hard as she can, while still keeping the ball in play.
I wondered what their plans are after graduation, and Tiffany replied that she plans to attend Sam Houston State University and major in criminal justice with a minor in chemistry. She wants to be a forensic pathologist after college. Marina wants to join the National Guard while also going to school to study kinesiology. Leah will major in pre-med at Sam Houston, where her brother also graduated. She is familiar with the campus, and it feels like the right place for her.
If she could have any car in the world, Leah would choose a Jeep because of how good they look; she feels a Jeep is part truck, part car. Tiffany wants a blue Ford pick-up because of how good they look and said her family has always been a Ford family. Marina would love a charcoal-colored Dodge Charger Demon because she loves muscle cars and this would fit her personality.
Marina mentioned she always carries and wears a black bandana during her matches as her good luck charm, while Leah always bounces the ball twice before every shot.
Tiffany’s heroes are her parents. She got her love for tennis from them, as they both played and taught her the game’s rules and work ethic. Her father even played professionally for a period of time.
Leah’s favorite food is beef ribs, bar-be-cued by her dad, while Tiffany’s is chicken fettuccini alfredo made by her mom.
The girls wanted to let everyone know the whole team believes in the doctrine: “Team Work Makes the Dream Work!”
