Traffic stop turns up drugs

Posted in:

The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) seized over $100,000 worth of cocaine during a traffic stop in Bastrop last month.

On Friday, July 26, a BCSO deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation on State Highway 71 near the intersection with State Highway 304, in Bastrop city limits, according to a post on the BCSO Face-book page. The driver was identified as Maximino Majano-Martinez. After speaking with Majano-Martinez, the deputy observed indicators consistent with criminal activity, and a K-9 unit was called to the scene.

The dog gave a positive indication for the odor of illegal narcotics, and the vehicle was taken to a local car dealership and put on a lift. There, 4.8 kilograms or about 10.5 pounds of cocaine, with a street value over $100,000, was located in an aftermarket compartment underneath the vehicle.

Majano-Martinez was then arrested, charged with possession of a controlled substance in an amount greater than 400 grams and taken to Bastrop County jail, according to the post.
