It’s almost time to send history to the future.Elgin’s municipal government and the Elgin Sesquicentennial committee invite the public to attend a celebration dedicating its official Sesquicentennial Time Capsule Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1:50 p.m. near the library. The capsule is set to be open in 2072.“Celebrating Elgin’s legacy through a sesquicentennial time capsule dedication is truly a once-in-a-lifetime event,” said Debbie Cartwright, Sesquicentennial committee co-chair. “We are shining a bright light simultaneously on the community’s history and future.”During the ceremony, the Sesquicentennial Time Capsule will be filled with various items representing Elgin and its Sesquicentennial celebrations. Capsule items are intended to give Elginites and future generations a glimpse of what life was like in Elgin in ...
