All qualifying mail ballots and provisional ballots in Bastrop County have been counted as of last week.
On November 10, the Bastrop County Elections Department announced that the final unofficial election results have been posted. These results include all mail ballots that were received in time and all provisional ballots that could be counted.
An additional 53 votes were counted since Election Day for a total of 36,947 ballots cast. Ultimately, 70.78% of registered voters in Bastrop County turned out for the November 3, 2020 general election.
An additional four votes were counted in Bastrop County for the Elgin mayor race, for a total of 2,752 ballots cast. Two each went to Ron Ramirez, who earned 62.52% of the votes in Bastrop County, and to incumbent Chris Cannon, who earned 37.48% of the votes in Bastrop County. Votes were also cast in Travis County for this election.
An additional two votes were counted in the race for the Ward 1 Elgin City Council position, for a total of 559 votes. One each went to incumbent Jessica Bega, who earned 58.89% of the total votes, and to Arthur Gibson III, who earned 41.11% of the votes.
An additional four ballots were counted in the race for the Precinct 4 county commissioner position, for a total of 8,010 votes. Those four votes were for Democrat Cheryl Reese, who earned 45.3% of the total votes. Incumbent Republican Donna Snowden earned 54.7% of the total votes.
An additional 52 votes were counted in the race for Bastrop County sheriff, for a total of 35,976 ballots cast. Thirty-two of those votes were for incumbent Republican Maurice Cook, who earned 57.03% of the total votes, while 20 of those votes were for Democrat Mike Renck, who earned 42.97% of the total votes.
In the presidential election, an additional 53 votes were counted for a total of 36,762 ballots cast. Thirty of these votes were for Republican Donald Trump, who earned 55.81% of the total votes in Bastrop County; 22 of these votes were for Democrat Joseph Biden, who earned 42.09% of the total votes in Bastrop County; and the remaining vote was for Libertarian Jo Jorgensen, who earned 1.44% of the total votes in Bastrop County.
Election results become official when they are canvassed, which must occur no later than November 17 according to the Texas Election Code. The Elgin City Council scheduled a special meeting on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 17, with canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the City of Elgin’s elections as the sole agenda item.
