Canelo, a handsome two-year-old male pit bull, was found as a stray by an animal control officer in Bastrop County in August 2020. Canelo’s right rear leg appeared injured as he dragged it when trying to walk. Bastrop County Animal Shelter searched for a rescue, but all rescues were at capacity. The shelter had a tough choice, but instead of euthanizing, they wanted to give him a chance, so they reached out to the Bastrop County Animal Shelter Helpers charity for assistance. The manager, Adam Marshall, chose the latter and made the phone call to Jenni Ritchie, the president of the charity.
