Elgin celebrates Juneteenth

Members of the Elgin community celebrated Juneteenth on Saturday evening with a program hosted by the Elgin branch of the NAACP at Winn’s Memorial Baptist Church. Carolyn Carter opened the celebration with praise, Anthony Moore introduced speakers, and Rev. D.W. Townsend delivered the opening prayer. Speakers included 2021 Elgin High School valedictorian Anaya Freeman, Bishop Mayes, and Elgin Mayor Ron Ramirez, who read the city’s Juneteenth proclamation.
