The Bastrop County Democratic Party (BCDP) has awarded the 2019 Molly Ivins Civic Scholarship to four recent graduates of Bastrop County high schools. Each student received a $500 scholarship.

What is NIE?

Newspapers In Education (NIE) is an exciting interactive program that engages students in learning by providing teachers access to the Elgin Courier print and E-edition for use in their classroom. The NIE program is designed to make reading newspapers a fun and beneficial learning experience.

Our program is dedicated to promoting literacy in our communities. Our goal is to educate, inform and inspire students by providing classroom teachers unique, timely and creative online resources to engage students and encourage lifelong learning. NIE provides resources for teachers, students and parents in all subject areas for grades 2-8. The eEdition (digital newspaper) subscriptions and educational resources are provided at no cost to schools and learning facilities, thanks to generous donations made by community members, businesses and our subscribers.
